Middlesbrough Mela is back for 2021!

The North East’s biggest multicultural festival is back for 2021, with a jam-packed programme of food, live music, dance, film and so much more.

To ensure the safety of our guests and staff, the Mela will be run a little differently this year. We’ll be holding not one, but THREE micro Melas for you to enjoy, plus loads of fun activities in Middlesbrough’s parks and museums over the summer. The full programme will be announced throughout June – watch this space!

Sports Mela: (date still to be announced).
We’re bringing the traditional Sports Mela back to Albert Park for a weekend of fun in the sun with a sporty twist! Try out Mela yoga, grab a tennis racket or put on your skates and head to the ring.

Family Mela: Sunday 8 August
Head over to Albert Park for a fun-filled day the whole family will enjoy. We have something for everyone, including street food, live music, capoeira, dance workshops and of course, a funfair!

Middlesbrough Town Hall Mela: 14 & 15 August
Our friends at the Town Hall will be hosting a full weekend of all things Mela. Think music, comedy and curry – what’s not to love?!

Other activities to enjoy
The Two Fridas dance piece at Albert Park, Saturday 7 August

A fantastic show by Balbir Singh Dance Company, celebrating the lives and art of two iconic women – Frida Kahlo and Amrita Sher-Gil.

Yoga and storytelling at Stewart Park, Saturday 7 August
This is just perfect for mini yogis! Join Middlesbrough Mela’s favourite storyteller, Umar Butt, as he takes us on the enchanted journey of Sara, complete with simple yoga poses inspired by the story.

Times for both activities will be announced shortly – pencil it in your calendar!

Make sure you’re following Mela on Facebook for the latest announcements and updates.
