Middlesbrough Mela returns for 2021 with a twist, presenting a series of micro Melas for you to enjoy with all the family.

To ensure the safety of our guests and staff, the Mela will look a bit different this year*. We’re holding a series of micro Melas for you to enjoy which includes loads of fun activities in Middlesbrough’s parks and museums throughout the summer months.

Sports in the Park
Albert Park
Monday to Friday from 26th July to 27th August

Summer fun with a sporty twist!

Join in with six supervised activities each day in Albert Park at the Sports in the Park. All activities will be FREE to access and there’s a wide range to choose from including favourites such as tennis, football and cricket. Or try out Mela yoga and put your skates on and head to the rink.

Anyone can take part at any time. No special equipment or clothing is needed – just heaps of enthusiasm and a willingness to give things a try. Bring your friends and family and enjoy all the fun in the sun this summer.


Children Story Book Launch
Dorman Museum
Postponed – New dates and time to be confirmed soon

Don’t miss this weekend where we have FREE activities for children at Dorman Museum in celebration of our new children’s book, Henna.

Come down and hear the story being told by the author, Umar Butt, and take a free copy home.
We also have dance sessions and arts and crafts activities all based on the story and on Sunday we have a BSL interpreted storytelling of Henna.

Perfect for mini yogis, join Middlesbrough Mela’s favourite storyteller, Umar Butt, as he takes us on the enchanted journey of Sara, complete with simple yoga poses inspired by the story.

Family Day, Albert Park
Sunday 8 August
11am to 6pm.
Head over to Albert Park for a fun-filled day the whole family will enjoy. We have something for everyone, including street food, capoeira, dance workshops, lots of lovely immersive experiences for little ones and of course, a funfair featuring family favourites like the teacups, the mini train and inflatables!

The Two Fridas

A fantastic show by Balbir Singh Dance Company, celebrating the lives and art of two iconic women – Frida Kahlo and Amrita Sher-Gil. Bring your own chair and blanket and get ready for a magical evening.
