This year the Middlesbrough Mela released TWO exciting competitions for you to enter with the winning entries to be created by professional artists!

The competitions are now closed but we would love to tell you about them below…

PATTERN DESIGN COMPETITION

We asked you to help us design a decorative and colourful windsock which would become part of our event decoration.

Thank you to everyone who sent in their beautiful designs, it was such a hard selection to choose from that we had to choose two winners!

Congratulations to Eva aged 8 who designed a dream windsock inspired by the illustration in our Mela storybook.
We would also like to say a very well done to Byron aged 5 who created a snake design from the Mela story he loved reading.

BUTTERFLY WINGS COMPETITION

We asked for your help to design a costume for Kiran the butterfly from the Mela story of Sara.

We had lots of colourful and decretive designs sent in and one fantastic design was chosen by our professional costume artist who is already making the costume ready for the Mela 2021 community parade.

Congratulations to Jellisha, aged 7 who’s design really impressed our costume designer.
